San Antonio Wildlife Removal Tip of the Month

Scratching Sounds in the Attic or Walls

Are you hearing scratching noises in your attic or inside your walls? Scratching sounds in the attic are a definite alarm that you might have a wild animal stuck in your home. In some cases, you may not be able to tell the type of a San Antonio animal, or you may not be able to see it. Strange, scratching noises might come from both the attic and the wall. One way or another, you might be able to tell the species to a certain degree, depending on the type of sounds it makes. Most frequently, San Antonio animals like rats, mice, raccoons, squirrels, skunks, and many other, could show signs of their activity in your house by making strange noises. These animals might move across your home using your walls, vents, and sealing. Although the best way to tell the type of the Texas animal you are hearing is to actually see it, you may be able to find some clues in the sounds they make. But, how can you actually tell the animal species based on observing sound it makes?

Texas rats, to begin with, are the type of animals that are most commonly found in human homes. Using their sharp incisors and claws, they are able to find their way in, out and across your home by biting, chewing and clawing different types of constructions materials. It is not going to be hard for a rat to chew through wood, bricks, and mortar to get to its goal. You will be able to tell a rat in your attic or walls by its frequent scratching, chewing and crunching sounds. In some cases, you will be able to tell rats squeaking from the inside of your walls. A good way to tell that you are dealing with a rat is to pay attention to the time you are hearing strange noises. Unlike some types of the Texas animals that are nocturnal, you may be able to hear rats throughout the day.

Unlike San Antonio rats, some nocturnal animal species, like raccoons and skunks, will become more active during the night. Although these animals are often active during the day as well, they will become most active during the night. Raccoons dominate other types of critters often found in homes when it comes to size. You might be able to tell that you are dealing with a Texas raccoon in your attic if you hear step-like noises during the night. The idea might be scary, and the majority of people who hear raccoons in the attic are scared because the sound they make resembles the sound of human steps. Due to their size, raccoons are less likely to get inside walls, but will move through vents if they manage to get inside.

Smaller San Antonio critters, like skunks and squirrels, will also make sounds that resemble human steps. Similar to raccoons, skunks are nocturnal. They will become most active during the night, and use this time to explore your home and look for sources of food. Even though these animals aren't as skillful chewers as rats, they are still able to chew through wood. Similar to raccoons, skunks will make noises that remind a lot of human steps. However, these noises will not be as loud and will be more frequent, because skunks are smaller in size than Texas raccoons and take smaller, shorter steps. Even though they are not very likely to get inside walls, skunks may fall in there by accident. If such thing happens, you will hear frequent scratching sounds coming from one place, and you could also hear louder squeaky noises of a frantic skunk.
